Robert's Giant Round Scale Crocodile for NATO Rolex

Hi strap lovers, Rolex and Nato straps have been inextricably linked since Sean Connery as James Bond turned up wearing one in the 1964 movie "Goldfinger". Rolex reputedly refused to provide a watch for Bond to wear in the movie and the actual watch that Bond wore was the director's personal time piece (a scenario that seems incredible to us now, given the proliferation of product placements in movies today). I think this movie and 'Thunderball', the 1965 Bond movie has sold a million Rolex watches and has prevented the Nato strap for slipping into obscurity.

Anyway, was not too surprising when actor, Rolex watch collector and all around cool dude Orlando Bloom recently appeared rocking a vintage submariner on a Nato, but was a bit of a twist is that the Nato strap in question appeared to be made from chocolate Crocodile! I must say this makes for a pretty stylish turn on the Rolex-Nato strap combo. So, when my good customer Robert from the UK contacted me to request I make him a copy, I had just the thing: a beautiful Chocolate Giant Round scale Croc flank that given it's size must have come from a 10 footer and since its the flank section is soft and supple enough to be used as a Nato with proper backing in a thin layer of vegetable tanned leather to prevent it's stretching. Here is the result. Robert is very please and I hope will send some photos of it mounted to his vintage Sub. soon.

New complex 'Center Seam' weekender

Hi strap lovers, Some straps are a lot more complex that they look and that's really the goal in a lot of ways to make a strap seem as natural and elegant. But sometimes a simple design concept and turn out to be much more complicated that simply cut, fold and stitch. The strap you see hear is a perfect case in point. My very good customer Scott, from Canada, had recently acquired a Graham Silverstone Luffield GMT and wanted a strap make for it using our 'Weekender Series' leather, but had a few special requests regarding design and fitment. first, he wanted the strap to have a center seam similar to the strap that comes with the Graham RAC 6 Nations celebration is the photo below. Second, he wanted the strap to be in black leather and with the large accent stitching to be in white instead of black. Third, he wanted the strap to also be padded. And fourth, he wanted the strap to have a nice tight fit at the lugs and curving at the case.

Now any one of the elements would not have been a problem, but combining all of them in combination was going to me a challenge. Just a couple of the issues: First, I had never build a strap with a center seam before, but realized right away that I would need to start the seam above the holes for the buckle, because if I punched holes through the seam stitching, the integrity of the stitching would be compromised and would potentially unravel. Second, the white accent stitching because of its location needed to be done reflectively early in the build process (instead of last, as is typical), so keeping those stitches white throughout was going to be a struggle. Third, the Center seam creates a bulge on the underside of the leather right down the middle of the strap that I would have to design room for in the mid-layer if I wanted the strap to have a nice smooth profile and I had to do this while adding a padding layer. Fourth, incorporating a curved lug while having this center seam bulge and still having it fit the relatively short lugs of the Silverstone. Needless to say it was all a bit daunting. I had to develop a couple of techniques and employ a hand full of others and bring them all together in one strap!

Well I'm pleased to say that it turned out to be a great looking strap and Scott has confirm that the strap fits Perfect! I, myself that it turned out to be a pretty sexy strap, as even my wife was impress!

Swedish Ammo Nato straps for BR126

Hi strap lovers, I wanted to share a recently completed Dangerous9 Nato strap for my great customer Simon Cudd, for his Bell & Ross 126. Simon is a long time customer and fellow strap junky (sadly no cure to this addiction) and is also the co-founder of BR-avo.com, which in my opinion is by far the best brand centered forum on the internet. He recently went professional and joined the Bell & Ross team as their online brand Ambassador. What's the saying: 'always try to make your living doing something you'd do for free' ? Anyway, I've had the pleasure of building several straps for Si over the last couple of years and so was especially please when he contacted me about a project for his new Cream dialed BR126. We were kicking around some details for a couple of straps, and since he decided to start with just one strap - a Nato, I decided to combine some of the design cues to both and came up with the Nato strap you see here made from the belt portion of a WWII era Swedish Ammo Bandalero, with bead blasted gunmetal hardware and olive hand saddle stitching. It's a real beauty and rally shows it's beautiful vintage character. plus, from what I understand, it's been a really hit with the brass at Bell & Ross, which is the best compliment of all. Two straps for Jon's PAM297

Hi strap lovers, Here are a couple sets of beautiful photos from my great custom, Jon from the US. He waited extra long for these straps because he was generous enough to grant me some extra time to take them to a meeting with my Alligator supplier in Basel Switzerland and it delayed me sending them out for an additional week. And now having received them has done me the extra kindness of sending me these great photo to share! Thanks a million Jon, your watch is definitely Watch of the Week'.

First up: one of my favorite new combinations: Panerai and American Alligator. And not just any Panerai, but a beautiful PAM297 GMT. And not just any Alligator, but Dangerous9straps' exclusive Hand Vintaged genuine American Alligator and upgraded to a "SuperExotica' strap with the addition of Exotic Ebony Eel skin lining and superfine hand saddle stitching with fine 4 ply chocolate linen. This strap really represents the pinnacle of handmade luxury watch straps. This strap is all class and I think looks like a million dollars of Jon's Panerai 297 GMT. Have a look:

Second up: Jon's PAM 297 and of a my custom 'TrueVintage' series 1950 Swiss Ammo straps. These straps are build from the pouch chosen by my customer and to their exact specifications and is a another amazing combination with Jon's PAM297. This strap is cut and stitched to hand saddle stitching in my Natural colored 4 ply waxed Irish Linen thread to highlight the original stampings from more than 60 years ago. Have a look:

Hi Strap lovers, I'd like to share with you some photos that I were recently sent,to me which were taken by Charles from Swiss Hides. He took these at our last meeting a couple of weeks ago. Swiss Hides is Dangerous9straps' newest supplier of American Alligator hides and they are far and away the best American Alligator hides available in the world today - the quality of there skins is just astounding. Swiss Hides is also suppliers to a number of large watch manufacturers and OEM strap manufacturers. Thomas's Wakmann Pilot Chronograph on Black Ostrich

Hi strap lover's, I've been meaning to feature these great photos from my customer Thomas of his Wakmann Pilot Chronograph and his newly arrived Dangerous9straps black Ostrich Leg strap. The strap is very much like my own Ostrich strap, mounted to my own Revue Thommen diver, except that this is stitched with 4 ply cream white, waxed Irish linen thread. I think this makes for a wonderfully classic combinations with just the right amount of sportiness with the cream stitching. I think it's a real winning combo. Thomas, thanks for the great photos!

Wakmann: I love these micro brands, they add such a rich texture to the our world of watches and make life as a watch collector so much more interesting than it otherwise would be with just the majors. Wakmann watches is a fellow German brand, with a rich history, and so I would like to encourage you to have a look at what they're up to. Solomon's Natural Leather strap for U-Boat Classico

Hi strap lovers, We here at Dangerous9straps are proud to offer straps in just about any exotic skin one can imagine as well as straps made form 'TrueVintage' Ammo straps from Germany, Sweden, France and Switzerland. But, it all started with just leather straps. And not just any leather either: we use only the very finest top grain vegetable tanned tooling leather. We build each strap by hand and then dye each individual strap to our customer's request. We've developed extremely complex multiple stage staining and dying techniques that can make new leather look like it has been worn and lovingly cared for for decades. Except when we don't. And that's exactly what we didn't do for Solomon's newly completed natural leather strap you see here. Yes, of course is't been completely hand build to his exact specifications using the thickest naturally tanned top grain leather, but as per Solomon's request, we skipped the dye completely and let the beautiful leather shine through in all it's creamy glory! The leather will darken and mellow slowly with light exposure and over the years turn to a beautiful vintage tan. Stitched with our heaviest cream colored 7 ply, waxed Irish linen, it looks incredibly clean. Mounted with our upgrade vintage style, flat, 3mm thick, custom 'D9' logo, sewn-in buckle with a polished finish, it's going to look stunning with Solomon's U-Boat Classico. I hope Solomon sends along some photo when he gets his new strap on this U-Boat and if he does, you see them here soon.

Latest 'Weekender Series' - Deep Black with Olive linen

Hi strap lovers, I wanted to share with you one of my latest completed Dangerous9straps' 'Weekender Series' straps. Our 'Weekender Series' is made from lightly oiled Nubuck leather and is a more casual strap than the typical Vegetable tanned leather. It definitely has a more relaxed feel and it incredibly soft and supple. If comfort and a relaxed attitude are your first priories, the new 'Weekender' is the strap for you. This strap was built to be pared with the Benarus Mil Diver, with a green dial and I think is going to be a really great combo. The Deep black has a wonderful matte finish stitched with our olive drab, extra thick 7 ply, waxed Irish linen thread and has been matched with our custom logo 'D9' logo, screw-in, SS, Pre-V style buckle with a wonderful brushed finish.

It's a very clean look and I think is a great combo with his Steinhart Triton and as you can see from these photos, the strap is extremely soft and supple. Aaron's stunning Newly Minted PAM382 on 1945 Swiss Ammo

Hi strap lovers. I've got a very special custom 'TrueVintage Series' 1945 Swiss Ammo strap by Dangerous9strap and a very special watch to share with you today. When Aaron contacted me about building a set of Swiss Ammo straps of his PAM382, he's not even received the watch form his local AD, but he was sure that he would be wanting a couple of very special straps for it. It took a while to work out the details and back logs being what they are these days he received his beautiful PAM382 before I had completed his strap order. Aaron's a patient man though and he confirms that this strap was worth the wait. This one is pretty special, which is fitting for such and iconic watch, with Irish waxed linen thread this I hand tinted to match the wonderful green dial. I think you'll agree that this is a one of a kind strap for a very limited and desirable watch. Wear it well Aaron and yours is Watch of the week!

Richard's Charcoal Nubuck Shark Skin on SAS

Hi strap lovers. Here's a strap that I recently completed for my good customer Richard for his Dwatch, but as it turned out, has ended up living on his recently acquired SAS. I'm a big believer in Shark skin straps for diving watches, they just seem to "fit" together, sporty and rugged and with a lot of great character and texture that seems to hold up well with the beefiness of many diver watches and I think this SAS watch is no exception. This Nubuck started out from the GreyMoss colored Nubuck, but Richard wanted a charcoal grey instead and so, with a little experimentation I was able to achieve a color that worked just right. I think it looks very clean and sporty with the cream colored hand saddle stitching as well. This strap like most Dangerous9 Shark skin straps was ordered with Australian Kangaroo lining, which really works great with the shark, as it's very moisture tolerant and super supple. Thanks Richard for more great photos! You SAS is definitely my "Watch of the Week"

Hi strap lovers, Dangerous9straps isn't all about high-end Super Luxury Exotic straps. We all need to relax and take some down time. And, there is no more perfect expression of that than out new 'Weekender Series' straps. These straps are build from super soft nubuck leather and are a joy to wear (As I tell my customs 'the break-in period is the time it takes you to mount the strap to your watch') and perfect with a pair of jeans and a sweater. Built to last at 5mm thick and hand saddle stitched, these are my 'go to' strap when I want to relax and just chill. My good customer Kyu requested I build one for his Bell & Ross SS BR03 in lightly oiled tan and slate gray stitching and and fully stitched keeper. I think it turned out great.

New Colors of Exotic Eel Skins perfect for linings

Hi strap lovers, Dangerous9straps has just received a couple of shipments of Exotic Eel skins in several new colors that I would like to share. First, let me start by saying that these skins are super soft and very thin, which is perfect to be used at lining leather for my 'SuperExotica' series straps. However, they are also surprisingly strong and can be used as the topside skins as well. Eel skin has always been one of my favorite exotic skins because they have a wonderfully smooth, supple character and are quite distinctive. I think these new colors are beautiful and will make some wonderful straps whether used as the top side or lining.

2 custom Swiss Ammo Straps for Aaron's PAM382

Hi strap lovers. Here are a couple of Swiss Ammo straps built for my good customer Aaron form the US for his recently acquired PAM382 Bronzo. This is a fantastic watch and I can wait to see how there straps look. Interesting design concept, Aaron choose to have the 1945 dated strap built to the correct strap size for his wrist measurement for daily wear and strap without stampings build much longer for use as a diving strap. I think this is certainly and interesting Idea and look forward to see some photos of him using his strap on a dive. Aaron's got a great sense of style and chose to have me create a custom green dyed thread to match the distinguished green dial of the Bronzo. Additionally even for the 'tool' dive strap, he choose a wonderful Butterscotch thread to match the fine bronze case of the PAM382. Both these straps I think are going to look great paired with Arron's Panerai 382 Bronzo.

Black Hornback Caiman for BR01 Red!

Here is another one that I recently completed for Mark from the US. I'm really happy with how this Giant Hornback strap turned out for his limited edition Red BR01-94. It's a real beauty and I can't wait to see photos of it mounted up with his watch. This one again is lined with Dangerous9straps' black Kangaroo leather, which as you may know is one of the most durable leathers to be had (used in premius motorcycle racing gloves and leathers) and also very moisture resistant, so this strap should last a very long time indeed!

3rd in the 'Weekender Series' - Coco Brown Nubuck

Hi strap lovers, to celebrate the arrival of the first snow fall to Munich this year (it's a little sloppy for snowmen, but I'm hoping for a nice white Christmas), I'm introducing my latest in the 'Weekender Series' from Dangerous9straps. It's a heavier oiled version of the light tan strap that I've featured as the first in series. This is just a beautiful oil tanned Nubuck leather that it tough enough to withstand just about anything you can throw at it and also very soft and supple against your wrist. As I explained to one of my customers recently the 'break-in period' is however long it takes you to mount it up to you watch. This version is hand saddle stitched with 4 ply Natural colored "Ecru" waxed linen thread (available in many, many thread colors) and topped off with my beautiful custom "D9" logo Vintage style, flat, sewn-in buckle with a polished finish. All together its a fine strap and the extra oiled finish means that you needn't worry about a little water exposure - Perfect for winter!!

Hand Antiqued Caiman Leg Skin Strap for PAM104

Hi Strap lovers. I'm excited to share a new custom strap built for my good customer Bobby from the US. I had built one of my very popular Tobacco Ostrich Leg straps a couple of months ago for his Monte Blanc and he had recently contacted with interest in a new strap for his PAM104. His original interest was for a Caiman Leg Skin strap in Cognac, but his timing was great in that I was in the final stages of development Dangerous9straps' exclusive new hand antiquing technique for American Alligator and Caiman skin. I showed him my samples explaining that I had been inspired to pursue the development of this after having been blown away to the new straps developed by Santoni for IWC's new Portofino collection. In particular the new Rose Gold 8 days/power reserve Portofino watch with grey dial - this watch was a stunner and the strap was by miles the best one my wife and I has seen at this year's Munich Time watch fair. In short order and after previewing my samples agreed that He would love for me to build him a Caiman Leg skin strap using the new technique. Bobby's strap has beautiful Charcoal accent stitching and lined in black Kangaroo leather, which is soft as butter and tough as nails and is build to fit his OEM PAM deployment clasp Here are the results. I think they are stunning. I just e-mailed Bobby a slide show of his completed strap, but I fully expect that he'll feel the same. 2 New Alligator "SuperExotica" straps from Dangerous9straps

Hi strap lovers. I just this past week completed 2 new American Alligator straps as part of the Dangerous9straps' 'SuperExotica' series. The 'SuperExotic' strap series represents the pinnacle of my strap making and is the purest expression of design collaboration with my customer. The concept is to design a very special and perhaps one of a kind exotic skin watch strap. Using Exotic leathers for the outside and lining and using ultra fine saddle stitching. These straps are build (like all Dangerous9straps), using the very highest standards and represent my very finest work today with exotic skins.

The First strap was designed in collaboration with my good customer Chris from Scotland for his Tag Heuer Monaco. He was kind enough to give me free reign to develop a design for this strap that was meant to incorporate the square design concept the his Tag Monaco. Using square scale American Alligator I designed his strap with square profile padding instead of my usual high round profile padding. I continued with this design theme by choosing small square scale Alligator for the keeper. My first thought was to use Royal Blue linen for the stitching, but I wanted to tie-in the white sub-dials and markers and so instead chose 4 ply Cream White Irish linen and stitched it using very fine saddle stitching. I knew I wanted to use a very special skin for the lining, and had a very special lining in mind that would pay tribute to the beautiful blue dial of the Tag Heuer Monaco: 'Deep Blue" Caiman Crocodile. Here I chose to break with the "square" theme of the strap and watch by using the very softest part of the Caiman skin - the Round scale portion, which is most suited to being used for lining. I think that strap turned out incredibly well and I really can't wait to see photos of it mounted to Chris's Tag Monaco. This watch is a really grail watch for me and one I hope to be fortunate enough to one day own. If I do ever own a Tag Monaco, I would want to wear it paired with a strap just like the one I built for Chris. Wear it well my friend!

The second strap I want to show is a newly completed black American Alligator strap for my customer Rey from the US. He had originally ordered a Dangerous9 exclusive Antique Mahogany leather strap for his Panerai 111, but after having seen of the exotic skin straps we've been doing decided to switch is order to 3 exotic skin straps instead. Among the 3 ordered was this American Alligator strap. It's a really classic, but with a twist: American Alligator with Cream stitching on the outside and with a beautifully polished custom "D9" logo buckle (that's the classic) and paired with stunning bone White, round scale South American Caiman crocodile for the lining (that's the twist). This is really a great looking strap and a real design statement by Rey.

Both Rey and Chris's straps are no doubt one of kind creations and designed in collaboration with me to create very special straps that are a pure expression our love of watches and the embodiment of bespoken luxury.

Josh's Swiss Ammo for BR01

Hi strap lovers. Here is a really cool strap that I made recently for Josh from the US. He'd wanted a 1940's Swiss Ammo strap and also incidentally has 9+ inch wrists. This was a bit of a math problem as these straps are only about 180mms wide and based on the limitations of the build by virtue of the location of the stampings I really had a very small area in which to punch the holes for the tang buckle. The solution? I made the short side about 100mm long! I also delayed the taper of the strap by about 5mms on each side to give the strap the same proportions that we mortals of normal wrist size enjoy about the BR01/03 strap design. Josh has also chosen to have his strap build with my recently arrived Vintage style, flat, custom "D9" logo sewn-in buckle, which was really designed with swiss ammo straps firmly in mind. The matte PVD finish is just about a perfect match for the black BR01 watch case and suits the proportions of his strap perfectly. Josh, Thanks for sending along the great photos! Revue Thommen Diver on Black Ostrich/Charcoal Stitching

Hi strap lovers. Here are some photos of one of my personal and favorite watches - the Revue Thommen Diver all mounted up with a recently completed Black Ostrich Leg strap that I had on hand and decided that since I wanted to have a dressier strap to attend the Munich Time Watch Fair last month, I would commission for myself (this is how I acquire most of my straps - very rarely making any with intent purpose of wearing them myself). This one is a great strap originally intended for a Panerai and built with nice thick padding and Dangerous9straps' exclusive French lambskin lining and nicely saddle stitched with 4 ply Charcoal linen. It's got a very understated and sophisticated feel with just the hint of contrast in the stitching, which can only be seen in certain light conditions. I had built this to accommodate the PAM OEM deployment clasp so I'm wearing it with an aftermarket PAM style clasp, which I would not have thought to design for myself, as I'm a buckle man, but I find the deployment adds to the dressiness of the strap and is quite comfortable, so much so, in fact, that I have ordered a polished version to match the polished watch case.

Just a couple of paragraphs my Revue Thommen Diver - I've owned this watch for a couple of years now and have to say that it's been a really great watch. The ETA 2824-2 movement has been extremely reliable and the watch itself is built very solidly and at 46mm in diameter, is nice and big and has just the right heft. It's not as thick as some of the divers in my collection, and so to me wears smaller that a 44mm PAM or my Bell & Ross BR02, which are 44mm, but substantially thicker. The design in interesting as well - sort of a cross between a Rolex Sub (bezel and date mag), an Omega Planet Ocean (Arrow hands) and a Breitling Super Ocean Heritage (polished case and unprotected crown). Some have said the design suffers form the amalgamation of design elements, but I totally disagree. My personal take is that its individual enough that it doesn’t feel like a copy or a knock-off of any of them and yet has prevented me from succumbing from the urge to buy any of these 3 watches, since this watch seems to satisfy my needs for these much more expensive watches nicely. My only complaint was that the lume on the watch was really bad - really. So, since I knew the watch was a keeper, I sent it to be re-lumed with C3 Superluminova and now it glows very nicely.

Lastly, I have had this watch on the original rubber strap and OEM SS bracelet, a Stingray strap, a Dangerous9strap exclusive Antique Mahogany with cream stitching, a black Nato strap and now the Black Ostrich strap pictured here and I can say that with its classic good looks it has looked absolutely teriffic on all of them looks just as great on a casual strap as on dressy strap and seems to transform itself to each strap iteration with effortless charm.

Arnaud's Ostrich Leg strap for Hamilton

Hi strap lovers, here is a newly complete Dangerous9 strap for my good customer Arnaud from Nice. This strap is based on his design request to have his strap widen and wrap the lugs. He was kind enough to provide me exact measurements of the watch so I was able to build his strap for a really great fit. These sorts of straps are always difficult to accomplish well without the watch, but this one turned out to have a stellar fit and I think looks really great on the wrist. I just love the Desert Tan Ostrich Leg skin, which is without question my favorite exotic skin. Made to fit an aftermarket deployment clasp I would like to thank Arnaud for his wonderful design and these great photographs of the strap and watch togther. Looking at his pictures taken in the gorgeous sunshine of the French Riviera, it makes me home sick for my Southern California home.

Ilan's 1899 Swiss Ammo strap for his new Magretta Bronze

Hi strap lovers, this is a strap that I build for my good friend and customer, Ilan from Tel Aviv. It's made from a very rare Swiss Ammo pouch dated 1899 That's right this pouch is 111 years old. Considering the age of the leather, I think it turned out remarkably well and is only showing some surface cracking (as we all will at 111 yrs). Build with Dangerous9straps exclusive Vintage style, flat "D9" logo buckle it's a great combo with this strap. And, I think it's a great combination for the Magretta Bronze with it's classic lines and beautiful brown dial. Ilan was kind enough to have the watch delivered right to me from the manufacturer to have the strap mounted and to allow me the oportunity to photograph it for him. Mark's polished Emergency Orange Stingray for BR01 Orange LE

Hi strap lovers, I've been a really busy strap maker and have a lot of really Dangerous9straps to share with you from the past couple of weeks, but first up. I wanted to share a strap that I build to Mark from the US for his Bell & Ross BR01 Orange Limited Edition watch. This strap is just awesome and was a lot of fun to build. Made form Emergency Orange Stingray and incorporating the eye portion of the skin and lined with Australian Kangaroo, I also polished as per Mark's preference to give it that great mottled look that is so appealing about polished stingray. polishing Stingray skin is a bit of a tricky affair don't sand enough and you don't get the great look that you want, but take too much and the piece is ruined! And to the fact that this is a one of a kind skin and if I ruin it, there is no getting any more (I do have enough of this skin to make many more straps, but not with the "eye"), it makes for nail biting work. Luckily, Mark was happy with the final strap and so am I. He was kind enough to send along some great photos of his strap nicely mounted to his beautiful BR01-94 Orange Ti Limited Edition. Looks great Mark, Thanks for the effort of sending me these photos!

Hi strap lovers, here are some photos of a recently delivered Dangerous9strap for my good customer Gary's Super Ocean Heritage Chronograph LE. He had contacted me looking for a custom strap that would look great with the blue dial/black bezel combo of this very special limited edition watch. We came up with this Coco Brown Alligator with Royal Blue linen stitch design. The Coco brown is a nice "dry" brown color with not too much in the way of red tones that could have clashed with the blue dial and the Royal Blue 4 ply waxed Irish linen stitching is I think about a perfect match for the blue dial. Sometime it's hard to match blue especially in photographs, but this combo looks to be right on the money. Andrea's PAM51 on Tiffany blue and Gold Tilapia

Hi Strap lovers. Here's a new strap that I made for my wife's beautiful PAM51. She really likes bracelets (curse her), but on this watch she thinks it's too heavy and so I had made here a strap about a year and a half ago. But the first strap I made was really too "clunky" for here taste and so her watch languished in the watch box unworn and unloved. I finally found the time to make her a strap that is better suited to her taste and the watch. When we were at a trade show about a month ago, I picked up some great Tilapia leather and she had really like the tiffany blue with gold accents that you see here. I think it's a really nice match for here PAM51 and she does to. Hopefully now she'll wear this one more. This strap is finely hand saddle stitched with 4 ply matching turquoise waxed Irish linen and lined with Dangerous9straps' exclusive French lambskin, which I'm happy to report she loves and confirms is super soft on her wrist. Best of all, she's now happily wearing the watch. What a difference the right strap can make - who knew?

Hi strap lovers. I wanted to share with you all a beautiful gift and received as a surprise from my dear friend and customer Ilan from Tel Aviv. It's a beautiful Itay Noy "Identity - Roman" watch. An incredibly and generous gift. To say I'm surprised and touched is an understatement. I've admired Itay Noy watches for a while having first found them as a sponsor on Watchuseek, but I've never expected to have an opportunity to own one. Ilan is has also been generous to have his new Magretta Bronze watch send to me to have a specially built strap mounted and photographed (more on that in another post). For now I want to extend my thanks to him for the gift of this beautiful watch. Ironically, it was a strap for this very watch that he had originally contacted me to build a strap, thus began our interaction that has since development into a friendship that I cherish. The strap you see in these photos is the strap that I had originally suggested for his watch. Serpentine colored Ostrich leg skin with butterscotch linen stitching. This strap has been upgraded to a Dangerous9straps' ultra luxury "SuperExotica" series strap with Eel skin lining and superfine hand saddle stitching. Generously padded at the lugs and tapered to fit the Itay Noy OEM deployment clasp, I think it's just about the perfect combination for this watch. The Detailed scale patterning of the Ostrich holds its own with the elaborately etched dial, the Butterscotch linen picking up the color of the gold plated movement peeking through the semi-skeletonized dial. Elegant and casual. So much so in fact that my wife has begun to wear the watch, which I feel is the ultimate endorsement of both watch and strap. Fine American Alligator for Michael's Dubey & Schaldenbrand

Hi strap lovers, Here is a really terrific American Alligator strap that I made for my good customer Michael from the US. It's to be paired with a really wonderful Dubey & Schaldenbrand Aquadyn with a dark blue dial. I've been admiring the D&S watches for a really long time, I just love the art deco design of these watches, but allas, I've not been able to scrape together the $$ to buy one for myself (ah, so many great watches, so little money:-). Anyway, If I was to buy one, I would get the blue dialed version that Michael has and build myself a strap just like this one that's going to Michael. It's a really beauty, with nice substantial padding at the lugs and finely hand stitched with 4 ply Irish waxed linen in Royal Blue to set off the blue of the dial. Man, what a combo!! Lined with Dangerous9strap's exclusive French Lambskin for comfort. This strap drips luxury, which is fitting for a super classy watch like a Dubey & Schaldenbrand Auqudyn. I hope Michael sends me some great photos of his new American Alligator strap all mounted up to his great Dubey & Schaldenbrand. Ilan's Grey Moss Nubuck Shark for Armida A1

He found the Armida A1 based on my recommendation and then ordered a strap to match my own. We've development a great friendship over the last few months trading ideas about watches, watch straps and more importantly about life, so I feel a very special bond with him and am very happy that he ordered the same Armida A! "Super Dome" with Orange minute hand and that we'll be sharing the same strap combo. I think every time I strap on the Armida, I'll think of him over in Isreal perhaps doing the same. Richard's 1939 Germany Ammo strap

Hi strap lovers. Here is a strap is just completed last week that I think turned out really great. It's a German Ammo strap dated from 1939 for my good customer Richard. These pouches aren't super rare, but really nice ones with these great stampings on the back and from the war years are getting pretty hard to find these days. Richard contacted me about getting a German ammo strap made within a couple of days of my selling the only Black German ammo strap I had in stock to Richard (you can see his resulting strap a Here). I checked with my supplier with no luck and so to Ebay we went and was able to win this great ammo pouch dated 1939 from a seller in the US. Anyway, shipping took a while, and Richard was very patient with all the waiting to win the bid, then shipping the pouch, so when it got here, I got right to work building his strap in true Dangerous9 style. I turn out really great, I must say.

When I think about the history in this strap, it really is atonishing. the original pouch, made in a German nazi era war leather shop/factory by Bernhard Meyer in 1939, then somehow making its way to the US, when I bought in from a Naples, Florida Army Surplus shop. Then shipped back to Germany to be made into the strap you see here, then shipped back to the California, to my good customer Richard. That's quite a journey, and one I'm sure Bernhard Meyer could have never imagined when he churned out this little piece of gear to feed the Nazi death machine. Not quite swords to ploughshares, but something like that:-)

This one was really fun to make as I not only padded it nicely at the lugs but, I gave it a curved top all the way down the length of the strap. Very happy with how this strap worked out. Introducing the New, More Casual "Weekender Series" from Dangerous9straps

Hi strap lovers. I've been pretty tied up with customer orders lately, but wanted to introduce the first strap of a completely new series from Dangerous9straps that we call the "Weekender Series". This series of straps will be based on our new oil tanned Nubuck leather that is really not like anything we've done before. The idea is that this leather is softer, less structured and more casual that the leather straps that Dangerous9 is famous for. These will be straps for the weekend, soft and supple and with a totally relaxed character with smooth sanded, but unburnished edges. This leather is ready for just about anything you can through at it and will development a wonderful patina over years of wear. Like all our straps, they'll still be hand saddle stitched with either 4 or 7 ply waxed Irish linen it's build like all Dangerous9straps to last a lifetime and look great while doing it. And like all out straps will be individually hand signed and serial numbered!!

The first style strap I have on offer is a lightly oil tanned brown nubuck, shown here with slate grey stitching, but like all Dangerous9straps is fully customizable and would look great with just about any thread color offered we offer, to suit your style and your watch to perfection. Jean and David's Cutomer photos

Hi strap lovers. Here are some customer photos form my good customers Jean from France and his great looking SS BR03 on his new Dangerous9 "Stonewashed blue" Nubuck Caiman and David from the US and his great looking PVD BR01 on his new Dangerous9 Vintage WWII era German Ammo strap. These straps are really worlds apart in terms of style and mood and this is very clear from the photos each of them were kind enough to send along. The thing that's striking about these watches is how while being essentially very similar designs, they can look great on completely different style straps. It just goes to show how wonderfully adaptable the Bell & Ross design can be and how a strap change can really set the tone for how your watch is perceived. Michael's Antique French Oak for Lum-Tec M25

Hi strap lovers. This strap is also a Dangerous9straps exclusive finish: Antique French Oak (in this case very "Antique"). This finish begins with a new freshly made natural cream colored Dangerous9 vegetable tanned leather strap, that I take through a process of staining and dyeing with my exclusive custom mixed dyes that can take as many as a dozen individual stages. Each strap is hand dyed and stained my me so no two are exactly alike and end up looking like a strap that, while new leather, has been in use for 100 years or more. Building straps like this takes time and a lot of expertise and is simply not available from any other strap maker. This strap, like all Dangerous9straps is stitched using waxed Irish linen thread (in this case 7 ply) to give it that rough hewn look. I strongly believe that truly handmade straps MUST be hand stitched using methods that leather craftsmen have been using for centuries. Lastly each of my straps is hand signed and numbered. It's the final touches like these that set Dangerous9straps apart from any other straps available today.

It's done with "stonewashed Blue" Nubuck Caiman skin and handstitched in matching Turquoise linen stitching and custom blended matching edge paint, to give you that great wall to wall turquoise blue or should I say "Bleu" strap. Of course, it's lined in Dangerous9strap's exclusive French lambskin to give it a buttery feel in the wrist. I can't wait to see photos of it on the watch. Hi Strap lovers. Here's another great Ostrich Leg skin strap. This strap was built for Eric's PAM417. I have to say that I really love this material. I looks great with just about every strap I've ever made and the tobacco colored Ostrich looks especially great paired with the padding at the lugs and butterscotch linen threat. Hand saddle stitched using the traditional "Hermes" two needle stitch, Eric's strap is lined with super strong and moisture resistant Australian Kangaroo leather that is very supple and will feel great on the wrist.

David's Big Game Hunt: Custom Cape Buffalo Strap and an Adventure of a Lifetime!!

Hi strap lovers. This is a great story of an adventure of a lifetime for my great customer David. We've worked together for a while now designing and building a few straps for his small, but impressive watch collection, several of which I have featured here over the past year or so. During that time we have, of course, traded many e-mails and a bunch of phone call working out what he wanted. It turns out we both share a love of motorcycling and adventure (although his adventures are on a whole different level than mine). During the course of one of our conversations, he brought up that he's been a lifelong hunter and that he'd been on Safari in Africa and was I interested in making a very special strap for him. Needless to say I was intrigued and wanted to hear what he has in the way of leather from his hunts and what he had in mind. Well, he goes on to relate this extraordinary story of his Safari in Zimbabwe, where he takes down a Cape Buffalo with a 19th century double barreled rifle (two shots then you have to re-load!!). Anyone who's ever hunted knows that to hunt an animal with as fierce a reputation as a Cape Buffalo with a double shot is some he-man stuff. African Cape Buffalo has earned it's reputation by being one of the most dangerous (and deadly) animals in Africa, by often turning on and charging the unskilled or unlucky hunter with sometimes (for the hunter) tragic results. In fact, they are know to be able to withstand many well place rifle rounds before going down. I'll let David pickup the story from here...

"The hunt was in real Africa with elephants chasing you, rhinos around and the odd lion here and there. The gun, a Holland and Holland London built in 1892, I bought from a dealer in the US specifically to go and hunt dangerous game one of the Big Five-Cape Buffalo. My wife Drue was with me the entire hunt. I practiced with the gun for 2 years and hand loaded all my ammo as you cannot buy 577 Black Powder Express ammo today. The rifle weighs 12 lbs and shoots a hand cast very hard lead bullet weighing 585 grains and will group 3 rounds into a 3 inch circle at 50 yards. I shot the Buff at 50 yards after a 2 hr stalk in the brush. I hit him with both barrels in the lungs top heart area and he turned and faced me. I reloaded and shot him again both barrels before he went down. They are very difficult to kill and sometimes take a dozen shots. He was about 10 years old and had lion scars all over his back which you can see on the full hide. I wear boots and belts now watchbands made from this old gentleman. It was the culmination of a dream I have had ever since high school to do what I did. I shot a lot of hogs in Texas for practice!!!!"

Well of course this is only part of the story of this amazing adventure: The full story, written by David, was published in Africa Hunter Magazine in 2007. It's a truly amazing read and I would be happy to forward a .pdf file of the article to any that requests a copy.

Picking up my little corner of the story, he sends me several pieces of the Cape Buffalo - his Cape Buffalo to make a strap or two for him and some extra that I can offer, (which I will as a very special Limited Edition offering soon). he sent me these leather pieces during my transition to Germany and what with lost in shipping nightmares and customs challenges (an adventure all its own), I was finally able to get my hands on his hide pieces and I work with him on several design options, finally settling in a double stitched pattern in Butterscotch and hand custom tinted Maroon, which I think turned out incredible. He finally recieved his stap in August and mounted it on his PAM. I must say I feel honored to have been given the opportunity to make his watch strap a reality and to have in some small way become a part of David's adventure.

Alfredo's Swiss Ammo for Autozilla: Emergency N Cream Addition

Hi strap lovers. Here is a strap that I just completed this week for my good customer, Alfredo from the UK. He's got an Citizen Autozilla and had seen (and liked) the Swiss Ammo strap I had done for Grégoire form France, that I had featured here earlier in the month. Alfredo wanted one in the same style, but with Orange and Cream stiting to match the hands and Dial markers of his Autozilla. Well, I have to admit that I had my doubts about this combination of colors and I wasn't so sure that double stitching a Swiss Ammo strap wouldn't be over doing it a bit. But, Anyone who's been reading my blog for a while, knows that I've been surprised on several occasions by how wrong my initial reactions can be. And, I'm happy to say in this instance I was really, really wrong. In fact I may have been venturing into a completely new spectrum of wrongness, because this strap is totally HOT! Built incorporating the newly arrived custom logo "D9" Vintage style flat, sewn-in buckle, the more I look at it the more I like it. I stitched the Orange line first, which looked pretty good. But, when I began to stitch the second line in cream white, it was like a revelation. This has happened twice recently with 2 different double stitched straps (more on the other instance will be presented soon), which I guess I've personally never been to keen on. My take away: First, I've completely changed my mind about double stitching on straps, and now think that if done well, they can look really awesome. And, second (and this one is NOT new - more like a reaffirmation) I should trust my customer's design instinct at least as much as my own and sometime more so. Alfredo has clearly got a great eye for design and in a few days, he'll be sporting the proof of that on his wrist for the world to appreciate. Thanks Alfredo for helping to opening my eyes to the great potential of double stitching!

New Hornback Alligator for Matt's PAM Luminar GMT

Hi Strap lovers. OK, before I post any more leather straps, my wife tells me I need to do a couple of posts about the great Exotic Skin straps I've done this month. And as usual, she is right (didn't let her hear that though). So we're going to start out with the King of exotics - the Hornback American Alligator. Of course this one is pure Dangerous9 - hand built and hand stitched in 4 ply natural colored, waxed Irish Linen, and with my exclusive, super soft French Lambskin lining. The skin for this strap was taken from the most prominent area of the hide - on the tail right behind the legs, this strap has all the hallmarks of a strap made form the best of the best. Dangerous9 Alligator skins are not thin, puny skins from baby gators, these things are thick and meaty and have the horns running right down the full length of the strap making a strap with substance. True Vintage: WWII era German Ammo strap for BR01

Hi strap lovers. Here's a new one from Dangerous9strap!! I've been hanging on to this WWII era German Ammo pouch for a while not really pushing it's availability, as I've been kept pretty busy build my other Exotic skin, Leather and Swiss Ammo straps. But, I was recently contacted by a couple of different customers about building straps from Germany Ammo pouches that have been hanging around my Ammo pouch stock for a while -these are made from a really great pebble vegetable tanned leather. So David was first up, so he's getting him strap for his BR01 shipped to him now. He wanted minimal stitching, but wanted it a couple of accent stitching and it the dark pewter grey (which I custom dyed for him starting with my slate grey 4-ply waxed Irish thread and dyeing it to just the right color - try asking any other strap maker for that service and see where it gets you!!) Anyway, I think you'll agree that it turned out looking awesome and I think is going to be a great strap when paired up with this BR01. Thanks David for the great strap design, which will forever be known here at Dangerous9straps as "David style". If you've got an idea for a strap that you'd like me to build, please let me know of if you want a strap like the one pictured, as for a German Ammo strap "David style"

Jean's new Polished Stingray strap for Beitling Navitimer ltd.

Hi strap lovers, here is a great new strap that I just completed for one of my best customers, Jean from France. It's a Polished Stingray build for his brand new Limited Edition Breitling Navitimer and it really turned out sweet. Lined in super soft French Lambskin and stitchless, it will be incredibly soft on the wrist. I also gave the strap a very slight round top finish, which in like a padding, but runs the length of the strap and is not so radical as a padded strap. This requires a lot of time shaping the mid-layer backing leather to give it a nice rounded top profile. I think it looks really great that way and a lot more interesting to look at than a typical flat strap. This is the kind of attention to detail that you will never get from a factory made strap and what separates a Dangerous9 strap from all the others and why Dangerous9straps is a true luxury strap maker.

Jacob Jensen Design Watch on Caiman Leg Skin my Dangerous9

Hi strap lovers, here's one that I just finished for my good customer Torben from Denmark. It's a Jacob Jensen watch fitted with a super custom Dangerous9 Caiman Leg Skin strap. I was very hesitant to build this strap using the OEM Jacob Jensen Deployment clasp as fitment to Torben's wrist is always a little uncertain without him being in my ship to have him checked for fitment, but since I had the watch and original OEM strap and deployment that I would go for it. It'll be a few days before I'll know weather I got it right or not, so I guess I'll let you know when I here from him. Anyway, all the technical issues aside, I'm really happy with how this strap turned out and had the pleasure of photographing the strap all mounted up to the watch right here before I shipped it out. Looks pretty great and with no stitching and french lambskin lining that I dyed black special for this all black watch, it wears so soft, like a dream.

Armida A1 on vintage Dangerous9 Antique Walnut

Hi strap lovers, As many of you know, I've really been enjoying new newly acquired Armida A1 Dive watch. for the last couple of weeks I've been wearing it on my Dangerous9 exclusive Moss Gray Nubuck Shark skin strap with Emergency Orange Stitching, which I think is just about the perfect strap for this watch. But, everyone needs to change things up now and then. With that in mind, I had a vintage 2010 Antique Walnut strap in my personal collection that I used to wear on my Revue Thommen Diver, but had been switched out a while ago and that I hadn't been wearing for a while. This is one of my favorite brown leather straps, but was stitched in black 7 ply Irish linen and the black stitching just didn't "pop" for me on the Armida. And so it was re-stitching time. I see no sense in building a whole new strap, If I've got a strap I love that can be made to work in a lot less time and effort. Here are the results. I think it looks really great re-stitched a pale yellow braided nylon that's just about the perfect match for the bezel and dial markers and still retains it's vintage leather feel and I think it's perfect for fall:

Hi strap lovers, Here are photo of a new strap I make for my good customer Grégoire from France. He wanted a special design the is a combination of the standard Swiss Ammo style strap I do and the "Timothy Style" strap that I do with minimal stitching just at the lugs and strap and with square end and rectangular holes more in the Bell & Ross style. I've got to hand it to Grégoire for having a great eye for design, because I think this strap turned out looking great and even better on his Citizen Autozilla. Exotic leather Nato straps handmade my Dangerous9

Hi Strap lovers, Here is one that's different. a Tobacco colored Ostrich Leg Skin Nato strap. Cut down the center skin but at an angle to allow for the necessary length and in dark tobacco, it's a real looker. This one is fully lined in vegetable tanned leather to prevent the Ostrich form stretching and hand stitching in matching 4 ply chocolate colored waxed Irish linen thread, that strap is build to last for many years of hard service and look great doing it. If you're looking for a Nato, buy want something more exotic than Nylon, you should consider a Dangerous9straps exotic skin Nato.

2 Ameican Alligator straps for James' PAM 312

My New Armida A1 on Dangerous9 exclusive Moss Grey Nubuck Shark Skin

When I received my new Armida A1 "Super Dome", I knew right away that I would benefit from a better looking strap. The rubber wasn't very comfortable in the summertime heat (yes, summer has finally reached us here in Munich). And, while I liked the black NATO/Zulu strap that came with the watch, I knew with the right strap this watch could be even better that it was right out of the box (or tube as it were). I wanted something exotic, so leather was out of my equation. American Alligator, Caiman Croc, and Ostrich Leg, while I love them as straps on most watched seemed way too formal on my "Super Dome". Stingray could be nice as it's from the sea, but it's too dressy as well. Shark! Shark is just the think. Black Shark could be very striking, but not distinctive enough. I wanted something unusual, with perhaps Orange stitching to bring out that great orange of the minute hand. I have a Nubuck Shark skin that I call Moss Grey that might be the perfect solution. Plus, since it's a shark skin that is exclusive to Dangerous9strap, I know that I'll be the first and in fact only person on earth sporting this strap combo. Can't get more exclusive than that. I thought about using my super soft French Lambskin lining, but I wanted to try out a newly arrived Kagaroo skin, which is extreemly tough, as this is a sports watch, I wanted to give it a super beefy look and feel. I just can't get enough of these Ostrich Leg skin straps. This one is made, like all exotic skin straps ordered in the month of August with the super soft French Lambskin upgrade at no extra cost. This one is in Desert Tan Ostrich with Walnut colored, 4 ply, waxed Irsih stitching which is a great choice for matching tread and gives the strap a really great look. I've made 3 strap in this color combo over the last 8 months, and I have to say I'm really in love with each and every one of them. Barry's Great Caiman Leg for Paneria

Hi Strap lovers. This one is a real beauty that I wanted to share. It's a black Caiman Croc. Leg skin for Panerai with padding at the lug which really shows of the great scale patterning of these leg skins to best advantage. These scales are soft and flex a lot like elbow or knee plate armor that was worn by knights back in the day and it wouldn't surprise me if the Croc. was the amour maker's inspiration. These straps are stitchless to show off the great scale patterning unencumbered by stitching. As near as I can tell this strap is a Dangerous9straps exclusive and are rare, as I can only make two strap for a caiman skin (only the back legs are long enough to make a strap). Hi Strap lovers. Dangerous9straps has become synonymous for and dyed leather straps, and recently has also become somewhat famous for using no dye at all. Here's a great example of a natural undyed strap made from natural vegetable tanned leather with a fine nubuck finish black edged and stitched to set off that great natural cream nubuck leather inside and out. I shot these photos early in the morning with the sun just cresting to show off that great custom sanded nubuck finish and beautiful cream color.

These straps will slowly darken with age and light exposure to a great vintage tan color, or if you prefer, keep it out of the sun as much as possible, and this great cream color can last for years. Treated with spray-on suede finish to protect it from dirt and water, I would still caution prospective owners to stay away from oils, as these can stain this beautiful finish. A quick brushing with a clean suede brush and an occasional spray with suede protectant should be all the maintenance these great Cream Nubuck straps Dangerous9straps will need to stay looking great for years to come.
